How is plastic made strong for planes, etc? I have heard that airplane/aircraft wings are often made out of plastic. Not the plastic that we see everyday, but strengthened plastic. I have to do a PowerPoint on this subject. And I was wondering if anybody knows how researchers and scientists have been able to strengthen plastic. If I can have information/links I would greatly appreciate it. Anything that has to do with strengthening plastic and how its done would be great.
What can we do to reduce the plastic polluting our environment? Plastic is made from fossil fuel, the same as our gasoline. So everytime we buy something plastic we are using more fossil fuel. We have plastic bottles, plastic bags, plastic everywhere that may take thousands of years to dissolve. What can we do as consumers to reduce the amount of plastic that ends up in our landfills besides the most common answer of recycle? I'm not looking for simple answers here. I'm looking for an informed discussion. It's too easy to say, recycle, don't buy plastic, etc. Plastic is everywhere on almost all things we use. Our cars, in our houses, furniture, anything you buy has some plastic in it. What are some different ideas for reducing the amount of plastic disposed in our environment.
How can I get smells out of plastic dishes? I have trouble getting smells out of plastic dishes -- in particular, plastic coffee mugs. They seem to absorb smell very quickly, and after only a couple uses, if I try drinking anything other than coffee out of them I can still taste the coffee! This is especially a problem when my housemates leave food in dishes instead of washing them immediately -- coffee mugs, plastic drinking glasses, tupperware, etc. I have found that normal dish soap can leave behind a "soapy" taste/smell in plastic dishes, so I have switched to an unscented dish soap. But no dish soap I've used has effectively rescued plastic coffee mugs and other dishes like this. Other than NOT using plastic dishes, how can I extend the life of the dishes and keep them from getting smelly... without leaving behind a chemical smell/taste that's even worse? Thanks for any advice.
What plastic edge trim to use when tiling over existing tile? Can anyone comment on what plastic edge trim I should use when tiling over existing tile that already has a plastic edge trim? Is there any specialty trim that would cover the existing trim and the edge of the new tile (being laid over the old tile)? Thanks, PJ.
Rubber and plastic mouth piece for saxophone? I'm planning on getting a rubber mouth piece for a substitution for my original plastic mouth piece for the saxophone but I don't know the difference, besides that one is rubber and the other is plastic. Is there a richer sound quality or something? I don't plan on getting a metal mouth piece because metal could poison you.
How do you clean plastic canvas art? My sister made me a wall hanging using plastic canvas and yarn. I would like to know how to clean it without destroying it. It took her a long time to complete and it has sentimental value. I called the local dry cleaners and they said, "The plastic will melt." Well, DUH!!! If you have sucessfully cleaned a plastic canvas wall art, please tell me how.... It is not on a frame of any type, no wood or cardboard backing...Mine is dingy and I would like to make it look better. Thanks in advance.
Where do they sell plastic that i can build with? I sell stuff at the swapmeet and i want to make a plastic table top cover type thing so i can stick stuff under it that people can still see but not touch. Does Home Depot sell plastic like that? A thick plastic?
How many different types of plastic are there? Local Authorities are giving residents a hard time because they are putting "the wrong type of plastic" in the bins for re-cycling. How on earth are we supposed to know the difference beween all the different types of plastic there are in the world? Does anyone have any idea just how many differrent types of plastic there are?
Can I sand my interior plastic of my truck to return to the original color? I painted the interior plastic of my truck a while back using the proper method for painting plastic (although painting plastic usually ends up being a pain). Its chipped in a few places and I Would like to return to the original color. It seems reasonable that if i sand enough, itll go back the the origianl color and i can then smooth it out and gloss it. I'm just making sure this is actually possible to do?
How can I get hardened plastic off the bottom of my oven? I was making a dessert dish and I heated the oven to 350 degrees, I used a plastic container to hold my dish. About 15 minutes later i noticed a strange smell and went to see what was going on, it turns out that the plastic container had melted and was dripping. I let it set so the oven was not as hot, and now i have hardened plastic on the bottom of my oven. How do i get it off?
How many times can you microwave a plastic dish before it becomes toxic? I don't microwave anything plastic like tupperware or plastic cups. My husband, however, uses the same plastic measuring cup to microwave something in almost every night. It's starting to get a filmy, rough kind of white residue on the bottom that doesn't scrape off. Can I tell him I'm right, that he shouldn't be putting that plastic in the microwave repeatedly?
How do I remove the plastic smell and taste from a coffeemaker? I have a new black and decker coffeemaker, all plastic, including the carafe. It has a very noticeable plastic smell and taste to the coffee, just about undrinkable. Have run vinegar through it several times, washed several times, water through several times, baking soda too. Still there after several pots of coffee too. Any ideas? Throw it away? My husband thinks it is tolerable, but I cannot drink it. And I don't think it can be at all good for you, if not harmful. (the plastic fumes, not the coffee) :) Thanks.
How cheap can the plastic be? Hi, I was wondering, how cheap can the manufacturing cost be for a simple designed plastic model. It is basically size of a credit card width, hight of a cell phone, and it has two huge holes on the left and right side. Can you tell me? Thanks!

What kind of plastic wrap do people use in the oven? I see recipes for things like ribs and other meats that call for wrapping your food in plastic wrap, then wrapping it in foil, and then putting it in the oven. The problem I see with this is that all plastic wraps tell you to not use them in the oven. What kind of things are people using in all these recipes?
How to remove plastic cover that came with my headlights? I installed my headlights in my car but I forgot to take off the plastic cover. The plastic is just like plastic wrap that they sell at a grocery store. Now the heat in this summer caused the plastic cover to get stuck to the headlights and I can't remove it. What can I do? I don't wanna use thinner to remove it because it might damage the headlights since they are made out of plastic I believe. They are clear. I bought them for a mitsubishi eclipse 2000. Any suggestions are welcomed
Can plastic covering protect a vegetable patch from treated pine poisoning? I have just realized that my new garden boxes have been made out of treated pine, and I want to put vegetables in this area. I have found out that treated pine is poisonous and vegetables should not been grown near them. My gardener has placed plastic between the treated pine and the soil. Would that make it safer for veggies to be grown?
What is the white plastic piece that comes with the ipod nano for? I got my nano but it came with this white plastic thing that looks like a holder to stand the ipod up. I don't get it though because it has a hole in the bottom of it also and then a couple little notchy things under there as well. Why would I need to store my ipod in this plastic thing? It already will stand up on its own if I want it to. I just don't get it.
Why does my cat like to eat plastic grocery bags? Does anyone else have a cat that likes to chew up plastic grocery bags? My 10 year old female cat has always done this. When I come home with a plastic bag, she goes bonkers! She chews and chews, sometimes swallowing the plastic. I've had a bag with meat in it, that she ignores and just goes crazy for the bag! I'm just wondering why.
How to clean yellow plastic formed newspaper boxes? I work for a newspaper and have been put in charge of refurbishing a number of yellow plastic newspaper boxes. I have just pressure washed them and while that took off a lot of the "surface" dirt, there is still a lot of dirt that seems to be weathered into the plastic. Does anyone have any suggestions on how I may be able to clean these up? Someone told me acetone but not sure how well that would work. Thanks in advance!
