How do I clean rust from stainless steel spoons?

I got a stainless steel cutlery set - all ok except the teaspoons! They rust in the dishwasher. Can I use steel wool to take off the rust?

  1. yes, and then polish with a suitable polish.

    Brasso do a SS polish

  2. Our teaspoons get a bit brown - I may be wrong, but I don't think stainless steel can get 'rust'. I think it's from tea/coffee stain. I rub it off with a nylon scourer pad - very easy to do. It doesn't hurt the surface and there's no need to apply anything onto the surface after.

There's not much point putting them in a dishwasher!

  3. Do not use steel wool or those green cleaning pads, They will scratch. Try Iron Out. It's a rust stain remover. You should be able to get it at your hardware store.

  4. if they look rusty they aint ..thats tea and coffee stains .....ad a bit of bleach in a bowl with hot water ..ad the spoons ..and u will watch the stains disappear lol

  5. You could use steal wool, but I would be wary about scratching the stainless steal.

  6. I agree with LisaG. To my knowledge I would advise against steel wool. Make sure to hand dry everything as you put it away.
