Engineering and fabrication

Does anybody know what is particleboard fabrication? What kind of material is this?

I'm trying to buy a nice bedroom set, but affordable I just found this one very cheap. Of course I know there is a trick and the trick is that is not wood is something call particleboard. I never heard of this before. So I don't know if I can take a risk and buy it or no way. Ok, thank you everybody. But I'm still confuse. So I shouldn't buy it, bc is cheap and probably is going to break fast???/

  1. e

  2. its like woodchips prressed together it breaks easy so be careful (kind of cheap)

  3. Particleboard is basically sawdust and glue. It is the material of choice for speaker cabinets because of it's increased density. It makes lousy furniture.

  4. Think of sawdust.

Particleboard is a mixture of sawdust, wood chips and other small bits of wood and plastic all glued together and pressed into the shape of a board.

  5. egyption cotton

  6. Particle board is made of small pieces of wood and glue, compressed together. It is very cheap and not very durable.

  7. Particleboard is "sawdust" molded together to form boards.

  8. chips compacted togetther ... strong but it breaks easer then real wood

  9. Particleboard is a very cheap method to make "wood". In essence, it is a wood board that has compressed wood chips and a bonding agent, compressed between two layers of thin wood.

Bad part is, it's not very sturdy. It is often referred to as "three move furniture". You move it three times, then you have to buy a new one!!!

  10. That's saw dust glued together, not very durable

  11. Particle board is basically sawdust and woodchips held together with glue/resin. It's much heavier than wood, and much weaker. Solid wood costs more, but it's worth it. Look after it, and the stuff can last you a lifetime - literally.

  12. You can buy good or bad furniture using particleboard. What it means is that particleboard is covered by wood or plastic laminate. It can look just like wood if done right.

Solid wood furniture is very rare and expensive these days. Particleboard can reduce the cost and actually make the product perform better. (no warpage)

  13. Particleboard is wood chips mixed with glue then formed into the shape of boards. It's covered with paper that looks like wood. It doesn't hold up to a lot of heavy wear and tear.

  14. Particleboard is made of several tiny pieces of wood. Like sawdust or something like that. They are held together by glue. But it is pretty durable just as long as it doesn't get like really wet.

  15. Most dept. store furniture is made of particle board - its wood chips glued together its very strong as long as you don't get it wet. Then it will enlarge like a sponge. I own a number of pieces made of it. Houses are made of it too. You can see it a a lumber store.

  16. Its pressed from wood fragments, such as chips or shavings meaning its not solid wood - its cheaper to make and is suseptible to swelling/damage when it gets wet! Also not as sturdy but will do for some household items.

  17. Particleboard is all of the scrap wood pieces from when cutting solid wood. All of these little pieces of wood are compacted. It's like chipboard except nicer and better quality. Particleboard fabrication is just fabricating the particle board. It is a cheap product as it is leftover wood.

  18. Particle board is an engineered wood product manufactured from wood particles, such as wood chips, sawmill shavings, or even saw dust, and a synthetic resin or other suitable binder, which is pressed and extruded. Particleboard is a type of fiberboard, a composite material, but it is made up of larger pieces of wood than medium-density fibreboard and hardboard. Its not good for furniture and no you shouldn't buy it if you want it to last long enough for you to enjoy it. It doesn't take to water easily and even a laminated top won't ensure it won't chip, crack or peel.

Save up or go to a Salvation Army or Goodwill Store. Sometimes you will luck out and find a good wooden set.

  19. Particle boards is manufactured from wood particles and glue under high pressure. It is very heavy!!!! Scews and other fasteners don't hold well and the furniture is prone to pulling apart. AND never get it wet!
