Can a 16-year-old person work at machining company?

I'm a 16-year-old boy seeking for a job. I'm interested about a machining job but I'm not sure that it's legal in California to work at that job at the age of 16.

  1. Doubtful. You need to have your parents sign a work slip, and it's limited to jobs that could possibly harm you. And that is a place where you could easily lose a finger or two if you're not paying attention.

  2. Most states require you to be 18 years old before you can operate "machinery".

It has to do with liability and contract law. You can't legally enter into a contract until you are 18 and accepting a job to run machinery is essentially signing a contract allowing the possibility for harm.
