Engineering and fabrication

I want to work on truck engines. Should I go to automotive school or machining school??

I would like to eventually get a job working on semi truck engines and turbos doing rebuilds and the internal machine work. Should I go to an automotive type school or take some machining classes. I worked for a trucking company for a while and in the future I don't want any part of installing or removing engines, just doing internal work on them. Thanks for any comments

  1. i think you should go to machining school

  2. You don't want a "job"-you'll feel stuck. Look into starting your OWN business in that field, or whatever your passion is.

  3. automotive school is the right place 4 u to learn all sorts of truck engines n not machining school.

  4. Diesal mechanics schools in the yellow pages heres a thought write to a company that builds the engines we have one called perkins diesil and pensky is one and ask them they let folkes build engines for a paycheck while going to school and they pay forthe school good luck

  5. both

few repair facilities do internal machining on engines. it is usually subbed out to a specialized repair shop, which means the engine comes out, with training from school in machining , and diesel repair you could get a job most anywhere, but you will start off changing oil, and pulling engines, try a machine shop that specializes in truck machining indoor work, not as hard, and probably dont pay as much.or a diesel engine dist, cummins, cat, detroit , etc

  6. Diesel mechanic school
