What are the components for a good gaming computer?

Right now I'm a student going to high school, so I'm looking for a computer that can handle a lot of gaming, videos, music, pictures, and anything else that a typical teenager would use when it comes to a computer. My parents would also like to use it for business and webcamming with family. Please give components like RAM, processor, memory, etc. I would also like to know good brands and price ranges.

  1. Buy your components from

    http://www.tigerdirect.com

    http://www.newegg.com

    CPU ($160)

AMD if your on a budget and want a better price/performance ratio. Intel if you want the faster processor

    RAM ($35)

Look for 4GB (2x2GB) (which is 2 sticks of 2GB) DDR2 800 which is dirt cheap right now.

    GPU ($140)

If you want a decent midrange performance card either go with a

    ATI HD 4830

    or

    GeForce 9800GT

    MOTHERBOARD (AMD $90/Intel $125)

Get an Asus or Gigabyte board (great overclocking features)

    HDD ($55-65)

    500GB or larger 7,200RPM

    OPTICAL DRIVE ($20)

    I like Lite-On DVD burners

    PSU ($50-70)

I'd go with Antec, OCZ, Corsair, Thermaltake any are good. Look for 500W or better.

    CASE ($50-100)

Antec again here, they make great cases.

This is the build I would make ($552.92 before shipping)

  2. can't give you spefics.

for the CPU put a high end dual core processor or quad core.

You will need atleast 3 gbs of ram. If you use 4 or moer you have to use 64-bit OS.

Size of hard drive depends on how many games and other stuff you want to use.

You can get away with using 1 graphic card. But you can use hybrid power and/or multiaple graphic card if you can afford it.

At least 600 watts maybe more if you are using 2 or more graphic cards with quad core processors.

You could get a gaming computer with a decent motherboard, ram, AMD processor (cheaper then intel), and a single graphic card for about 500 to 600 dollars. Although I would do some research about the product your buying to see if can play the games you want to play.

  3. Well, first off I would go with a high end graphics card from either Nvidia or Radeon (with around 512 MB DEDICATED RAM <------ very important), and have at least 3GB ram and 2.3 dual-quad core processor

Then I would have around 250GB to 1T of hard drive and to top it off nice 19" HD widescreen monitor, so it should cost at least $750.

  4. Probably you would be better off either finding your local computer builder or using one of the guides on HP, dell etc.

I build my own and theres so many factors you have to decide on.

I don't buy the "canned stuff" because it comes with all their own exclusive software that is really spyware.

If you have a working copy of Vista or XP you can order a very nice computer from www.tigerdirect.com or www.newegg.com

Just select the non OS system

For Ram nowadays to run Vista well you need at least 4 gigs, in order to game.

In XP you need 2 gigs.

I would go with a dual core for a minimum. Or a Phenom if you can afford it.

At least a 775 for a socket processor. There are better.

  5. i personally prefer intel processors and Nvidia video cards.

make sure the video card is 512mb (a 256 high end one can get the job done but 512mb just makes it sure that u can run it on high graphics and stuff)

and since make sure the processor is at least intel core 2 duo 2ghz. 2ghz will do but i would probably go for a 2.5ghz or more. maybe a quad core processor.

also make sure the ram is 800mhz(667mhz would be ok but 800 would help things out a bit more). and 2gb at least.

2gb ram(memory) will be fine. but more would make things better.

    hope this helps

those are the things that really matter in a computer.
