How many components are in a modern car engine?

How many components does a 2008 Toyota Camry or a regular car have compared to a Ferrari which has 800 components in the engine alone?

  1. a high perfomance engine or a camry engine will have about the same amount of parts. the ferrari engine will definatly be bigger have 4 to 8 more cylinders and more valves per, but its not like the ferrari engine is light years ahead on engine technology, both engines work on the same principles, they just make really good ones.

  2. all engines have a few basic componets...it never changes

a crankshaft...to spin the rotating assemby

connecting rods...connect the the crankshaft and piston

piston and rings ( to compress the a/f ratio....provide power to the crank...and push out exhaust gases)

    camshaft..to open and close valves

valves( to let air into the engine and exhaust out of the engine)

spark plug( gasoline engines only...ignite the a/f ratio)

all engines have these componets....other engines may differ from one another for features like variable valve timing or features like that....but all have these componets atleast.

now the nissan rotary engine is alittle different...but technically still has all these parts...

  3. They say there are No dumb questions. I think this one is kind of a Dumb question because INSIDE Any Ferrari Engine does NOT have 800 Components..... V6 V8 or V12

It takes 1800 parts to make the V12 Ferrari 512 Turbo RUN.

Compairing a V6 Camry to a Ferrari is ODD because one is a every day car ((well built of course)) and the other is WELL one of the best cars ever built...

How about a Ferrari F430 with about 1078 parts to make it run but the inside components 291...

Guessing with the emessions system setup the V6 Camry is well over 1128 Parts or components to make it run... With 303 parts inside.

((((SIde Note Wankel power plant was the rotory motor that Nissan used back in the 79 to 83's was on the Mazda Cosmo line. Used under 49 parts to build short block right at 273 parts to get running))))

  4. I own a shop, and think this; It really depends on the design of the engine. Just because an engine has more parts, doesn't mean its better. I look at it like this; the more parts an engine has, only means an increase in the percentage of failure. You may be surprised to find the Toyota will have much more parts than you think, but since its a four cylinder, it won't have that many. Take the Ferrari, and divide the number of parts by the number of cylinders it has, and you will see the Toyota may just have as many when compared this way per cylinder. You can always get a repair manual that shows all the components in the particular engine, and count them. I doubt anyone is going to know the number due to the fact they have never took one apart, and counted them. One thing for sure; When one gets it apart, they are going to be amazed at how many parts can be stuffed into a block this small. Counting all the nuts & bolts, and right down to the valve keepers, sure makes for a lot of components, and yes they do have a lot of parts, a lot more than one would think when you get down to counting.

Glad to help out, Good Luck!!!

  5. Every modern car engine has at least 500 components.
