I am a junior in high school and I have a passion for math and science, specifically engineering. My high school does not have an engineering club and I would just like to know if anyone could tell me how I could go about starting my own engineering club at school. My proposal has already gotten approval by my school, but I would like help with the actual procedures that take place in the club at every meeting. Also, suggestions for possible projects and activities that the club could do would be greatly appreciated. Please help!
If your school has a requirement for clubs to do so much community service, see if your city's DPW or state's DOT need volunteers for litter pickup or landscaping. There are pleny of engineers working at DPW's and DOT's, so you might be able to make some contacts there.
As for club activities, you can do problem solving. You can also set up field trips. If you make those contacts above, they can take you on tours of their offices or job sites.
You can hold contests to give your club exposure. Egg drop, paper airplane toss, and rubberband powered car contests are fairly simple to run. Post up flyers around the school to advertise your contests. If you have a school paper, issue them a press release, and they might very well write up a story on your contest.
