How important is the undergraduate engineering school in getting a job for a civil engineer?
This person is not finished with school yet and would like to transfer from one state college with a great reputation to another state college that does not have such a reputation for engineering.

- In my experience (which is 15 years at a power plant working in the engineering group), not very. I suppose graduating SCL from MIT or something would be impressive to some huge international conglomerate...but for the working engineer, the guy who just wants to work in his field and do a good job, graduating from a name school might even backfire. Would a bunch of engineers , all a mix of engineering grads, want some hot shot from some big name working with them? Chances are, no.
- You mean how important is the school you get your degree from. It will hardly make a difference in getting the job. Since you are looking for an entry level position, you won't have much on your resume besides the school, and your extracurricular activities. A potential employer will consider these in comparing candidates, but your grades are the most important thing that he will notice. If somebody comes along with a degree from MIT, he will get some extra consideration, but if his grades are not better than yours he could easily lose out.
