How to design some intersting English homework for my students?

The holiday is just around the corner. As usual it is time for me an English teacher to design some homework for my students. This year, however, it is a litltle different, for the school ask us teachers to design some interesting forms. I am here teaching in a non-English speaking country.I really want to know about what you are doing with interesting English homework.

  2. What ever you do.

DO NOT GIVE THEM BUSY WORK!!

I can not stand teachers giving me homework that has no purpose!

  3. Don't give homework. Let them have fun lol.

But... you can make it so they have options between like 5 different things. this usually makes cooperation... and for it to be more easy... try it!

    good luck

  4. use all the learning styles for them to show what they know. use color if youare studying grammar, highlighters to annotate a poem. that will give lesson a way in or visual learners and also kinesthetic as they can relate a movement to a part of speech. charades is always fun!

  5. I had an English class where the teacher assigned us topics to find an article on... global warming, current events, etc... then re-write the article and purposely make a few errors... then in class we passed around our articles to each other and had to correct the grammar.

I found that fun and interesting... it brought in outside information other than English into the classroom.

    Happy Holidays :)

  6. You should ask the disgruntled children in the "Why do kids not do Homework?" question. I'd like to see their answer in regards to making it more "fun" since they l3itch about everything.

Just a tip, but you might try looking up certain methods that may interrelate with what country you're in. Find the connections between both languages. For example, The in English is similar to the word The (accent over the E, aigu) for tea in French. Find similarities, and you'll be set =) Goodluck!!

  7. I would like writing poetry or creative writing.

Try having them perform a skit or something like that.

If those won't work, maybe word-mobiles. We did these in Spanish. Like "To eat" on top and then it goes down into the tenses like "eat," "eats," "ate," and "had eaten." And then you put cute little pictures by each word.

  8. You can also search by grade level.

  9. - why not have them go watch an english film or television program or something and then have them write out a short essay about their experience or about the film - what they understood, etc. It'll also motivate them to learn this second language, while being fun at the same time ;-)

    - if there are no such avenues, may be you can get hold of a good English film & show it to them before they leave for the holidays.

    - or, let them visit a museum, park, mall, etc. & write about that experience.

    - ask them to learn at least 5 or 10 new words in English & use them in sentences - not just for HW writing, but also use them in daily conversation with family & friends.

    - ask them to read one English comic book ! They can share the story back in class or write a short synopsis on it.

    hope these inspire you

    all the very best

ADDITION : you can ask them to make an ABC book. depending on the grade you are teaching, either give each student only one letter of the alphabet or ask them to make an A to Z book. they can do this individually or in groups. they can include new words, pictures, puzzles, poems, drawings, crafts, etc. etc. Make it thematic if you like.

  10. Use clip art for picture prompts. Sort of like charades

but this is on paper. Use very standard universal pictures

that your students will recognize. If they get it they will

figure out a poem or something.
