How does smaller fabrication process helps make cpu faster and more energy efficient?

1. smaller dimensions mean the capacitances are smaller. The capacitances are the limiting factor in switching speed, so a smaller cap means faster speed.

   Most of the energy in a CPU chip is switching capacitor charges between logic hi and logic low. If the caps are smaller, the power used is lower.
