State what manufacturing process and what material would be used to produce the following components: a) a washing detergent container with a thread on top for attaching a cap; b) thin wire used in electrical applications: c) an intricately shaped small toy car; d) the engine block in a modern car; e) a hip replacement joint.

Public Comments

  1. A) Injection molding/plastics

    B) Wire drawing/usually copper

    C)Die cast/powdered metal

    D)Investment casting/cast iron or aluminum

E)I dunno because they consist of different components and materials

  2. Hip joint replacement parts (stem, cup & ball) can be made of titanium or cobalt-chromium metals (mine happen to be made of cobalt-chromium); the ball and cup liner can also be made of ceramic; cup liners can also be made of polyethylene or highly cross-linked polyethylene. The metal manufacturing process resembles that in a machine shop.

  3. The common route for plastics is the process that pellets are used in the injection mould and the polymer is used in accordance with the chemical to be stored in it.

usually a filament that is extruded is done so in a hot rig or hot mill and rolled and treated until it is the correct diameter.

the common application for toy making is die-castin and the mould that is used with mailable metals.

and engine block can mean lots of things, there constructional aspects are that there is the crank case, then the block that contains the lower aspect and the cylinder head, and the rocker cover.

the block is the larger and heavier unit that contains the cam, push rods and tappets and the timing chain, the process is two fold, the mould and the process to determine that the cylinders are correct.

the process of a hip joint is usually Titanium as the material has be body compatible.

  4. tell me something jimmy, will you log on to yahoo during your exams and copy all the answers? useless student stop posting your assignments and exam questions you jimmy and do some thinking, i think they sell fresh brains at asda. asda is looking for people to work and if you are finding this engineering course very hard to do any assignments on your own then get your bloody cv in quick!!

  5. hats off to brian s
