How many times can you microwave a plastic dish before it becomes toxic?
I don't microwave anything plastic like tupperware or plastic cups. My husband, however, uses the same plastic measuring cup to microwave something in almost every night. It's starting to get a filmy, rough kind of white residue on the bottom that doesn't scrape off. Can I tell him I'm right, that he shouldn't be putting that plastic in the microwave repeatedly?

- The plastic doesn't become toxic - it deteriorates from loss of plasticisers and they might effect taste if enough were released at one time, which they aren't. I have a number of Tupperware containers that have a slight frosting that probably came from microwaving leftovers with fat in them so part got hotter than it should. I am more concerned about them getting so rough they hold food and don't get clean in the washer.
Buy him a couple of new measuring cups, perhaps including a glass cup.
