What components do you need to set up a wired and wireless LAN network?

Can someone please say what components you need to set up a wired and wireless LAN network between two computers, and tell me how to set it up? Thanks.

   With a wired network just hook up the Modem to the Internet(from your ISP) and your Wireless router to the Modem

   plug up to 4 computers into the router



2. Well you only need to be wired or wireless both isnt required. But all you need if going wired is a wireless router which has the functionality for wireless and wired up to 4 other computers built right in. If you're going wireless you'll need the same wireless router and two wireless cards either usb or pci. As for setting it up all you have to do is follow the directions on the CD that comes with it. It'll walk you through everything you need to know.


3. There are lots of approaches. The simplest way is to buy a basic home router for like $50 that has Wireless G or N support and a few ports on the back.

   Essentially you will have your modem that is provided by your Internet Service Provider (ISP). From your modem you take a straight-through Ethernet cable and plug that into your wireless router. Then you simply take a straight-through Ethernet cable and run it from your computer's RJ-45 port (Ethernet) and run it to one of the RJ-45 ports on the router.

   That's essentially it. Then you will want to secure your wireless connection using WPA or WEP which will require a key to be entered (it can automatically make one or you can choose one yourself). You save this password and use it on whatever device will be connecting wirelessly to connect to the network, this keeps uinwanted people out.

   That's the cheapest and most secure way to have a LAN with wireless capabilities.
