Engineering and fabrication

We purchased a granite slab and the fabricator cut the sink hole too big is there any way to fix this?

We now have a hole for the sink that is 36"x23" and can't find a sink that will fit into it. Is there a way to patch the granite or a sink extender we can use?

  1. look for a drop in sink larger than the original and have the fabricator do what he can to make it work

    OR

if you have the height, have the fabricator make a "ring of granite" to make up the space with an ogee edge on it and have your sink mount over or under the ring. This will have a stepped up effect. I'm not sure it will work without more info, but maybe ask.

as an interior designer I suggest you have the fabricator cut you a new piece. If he had the specs to the sink and it was his mistake, he is responsible to do it correctly.

  2. Unfortunately, no. If the fabricator cut the hole bigger than the numbers you gave him, he will need to make you a new piece at his expense. If you gave him the wrong measurement, you will have to eat the cost of a new slab. Good luck.

EDIT: You could do the ring of granite, but it will look really odd. Check a plumbing supply house for a larger sink. Hope this helps.

  3. Find a different size sink, or make the guy who cut it, get you a new one. Can't patch the counter and have it look good.

  4. Buy a bigger sink and cut the hole a little bigger. Also did you check to see that if you scratch it that it will be there for the life of the counter.

  5. I am assuming that this is an under the Granite type sink >double bowl ? if that's the case all the guy needs to do is use a ( what we call a Cribber for the job, they are unseen and the counter top will look great , I have installed many of these for people and they not only like them, they love them and tell me how much better it is to clean the sink with that piece installed , and also good luck on that Granite purchase they are very hard to care for , pray that you don't ever over heat it and crack it
