Engineering and fabrication

What would someone who worked in semiconductor fabrication (microchip manufacturing) be called?

I asked a question yesterday which asked what were two science careers which involved the study of metals. I knew one was metallurgy, but one person also said that a career in semiconductor fabrication (microchip manufacturing) also needed to know lots about metals. I actually have two questions then, the first one is: Is there another science career involving the study of metals, the second one: what exactly would a person who worked in microchip fabrication be called? Thank you!

  1. They would be called a Fabrication engineer or Foundry process engineer. They look at the chemistry and physics of depositing metals on to a silicon surface (they call it a substrate) to make the wiring on microchips.

Another metal study role would be in the building industry such as a structural engineer.
